The meeting was called to order by President Julie Maturo at 12:27pm. Julie extended a welcome and greetings to all members and guests as we start a new meeting year.

Minutes

Minutes – the minutes were read by Glorianne Campbell and approved with a motion by Debbie Notaro and seconded by Ellie Byrnes.

Treasurerʼs Report – Ellie Byrnes reported the current balances in the GGC accounts.

Julie Maturo expressed thanks to Mary Ann Rosenfelder for the layout and production of the year’s brochure and membership list.

Vice Presidents’ Report– Arlene Grandt and Mary Stavenhagen outlined the meeting topics for the year. The October meeting will be about bulbs.

Guest Introductions – Julie Maturo asked all those who brought guests to introduce them to the gathering.

Committees

Always on Tuesday -Kathy Wengronowitz looks forward to next summer’s scheduling.

Assemblage -many thanks to Linda Brodine.

Communications -Mary Ann Rosenfelder will be handling these for next year.

Historians – Ginny Dushney and Annette Barnes reminded everyone that this is our 85th year. Julie Maturo mentioned that we have been recognized both by Illinois and National Garden Club organizations. Ginny reminded members to collect photos of events and see that they receive them for ongoing records of the club.

Hospitality – Jane Martin thanked the hostess committee, the officers, for today. Julie Maturo informed the members that Kathleen Harrington is in charge of the Raffle and asked that each month’s hostess committee let Kathleen know at least a week prior to a meeting if there will be any item for the raffle coming through their committee.

Membership – Kristie Dienst reported that we now have 76 members. She had new member applications available today.

Publicity – Debbie Notaro is our new chair. She asked that members get to her any items/pictures, etc. that she can send out for publicity.

Service Projects

  • Arbor Day– Julie Maturo informed the members that $2,500 has been placed in the 2013-14 Budget for fall tree planting in Island Park.
  • Geneva Beautification – Chris Shaw reported that the fall knuckle planting took place last Sat. The final clean up for the fall will take place on November 2.
  • Geneva Garden Club Park – Julie Brown reported that it is looking good. Fall clean up will probably take place on a Saturday at the end of September or October 12. An e-mail will go out to members regarding the date.
  • Planters – Chris Shaw reported that our responsibility is for fall/winter plantings at CASA, History Center and Living Well. The Library Planters/Arrangements schedule can now be done through Signup Genius and a link will be put on our website.
  • Scholarship – Karen Bielski also reported the sending out the check for this year’s winner and that not until the beginning of 2014 will applications go out for next year.

Ways & Means

  • Cathy Rex reported that she is taking orders today for Bulbs and will be doing so again at the October meeting. She reported that we netted $922 on sales last year.
  • Jane Martin reported that Bows were made during an Always on Tuesday event and we will also be making bows at our November Membership Meeting. We will need volunteers for the work shifts for the Christmas Walk weekend, December 6 and 7.
  • Garden Walk 2013 was reported on by Debbie Notaro and Sheila Persinger. They extended their thanks to all the members who helped make the event such a success.

Other Business

  • Julie Maturo read a letter from the Geneva Library thanking the club for the book donation.
  • Julie Maturo reviewed the 2013-14 Budget that was accepted by the Board. She highlighted some items, such as the $2,500 for tree planting, $150 toward our Garden Club Park and $500 to Geneva Beautification.
  • Theresa Jaeger announced about the Studio Art Tour Walk scheduled for the weekend of September 13-15.
  • Kathleen Herrington announced about the November 22 Fox Valley Special Recreation event called North Lights, Tree and Lights and asked whether the Garden Club could decorate a tree which would then be sold at auction.
  • Annette Barnes announced about an Antique Sale that Cathy Rex will be holding September 13-15 and that Ginny and Annette will be there selling some of their wonderful creations.
  • It was also announced that there will be an Artists‘ Night at Living Well this evening.

The Raffle for the lovely mums on all the tables was held.
