May 2014 Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Julie Maturo at at 1:10 at Eagle Brook Country Club.

Minutes

Minutes – the minutes were read by Glorianne Campbell and approved with a motion by Deb Hall-Reppen and seconded by Kathleen Herrington.

Treasurerʼs Report – Ellie Byrnes reported the current balances in the GGC accounts.

Introduction of Guest – Gerry Nelson, one of our In-active Members of long standing in the club, joined us for the luncheon and was introduced to the group.

Committees

Always on Tuesday– Kathy Wengronowitz announced the schedule for the summer and members were to pick up the schedule today.

Japanese Garden – Darlene Larson reported that a natural stone bench has been purchased for the garden and will be dedicated this summer (date to be announced). Darlene also announced that George Kay of G. Kay Landscape, who was very involved and helpful in the early restoration of the garden, has passed away.

Membership – Julie Maturo welcomed two new members to the club, Lynne Bishop and Kathie Michael.

Announcements-

  • Ellie Byrnes reminded members that the Bridge Walk for Living Well, our team the Wellness Walkers, will take place on Saturday, May 17 meeting in the Fabyan Forest Preserve at 8:00 a.m. Ellie will distribute the tee shirts to the team members prior to the event.
  • Gardenology – also takes place on Saturday, May 17 in downtown Geneva. Debbie Notaro asked for a few more volunteers for that event.
  • Mary Stavenhagen and Marilyn Schave are chairing the Plant Sale of June 6-8. Mary asked for more help on Thursday, June 5 for set up as well as needing more donated plants. Wasco Nursery has donated four items to be raffled off at the sale. Raffle tickets are available today, will be sold at Gardenology and the plant sale with the winner being drawn on June 8.
  • Hospitality – Sheila Persinger introduced and thanked the committee for today’s luncheon. Great job, ladies!!!!!

Recognitions – Julie Maturo presented the Geneva Garden Club Gratitude Award to long time member, Linda Radtke. Julie further recognized committee chairs for the past year and officers for the past year.

Installation of Officers – Julie Maturo installed the new officers for the 2014-15 year: President, Debbie Notaro; Vice-Presidents – Sheila Persinger and Mary Ann Rosenfelder; Secretary – Julie Brown; and Treasurer – Ellie Byrnes. Julie Maturo then passed the gavel to Debbie Notaro. Debbie then presented to Julie Maturo a lovely necklace in gratitude for her service to the Garden Club and read a lovely card presented to her as well.

Adjournment – the meeting was adjourned at 2:05 with a motion by Deb Hall-Reppen, seconded by Julie Maturo.
