February 2014 Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Julie Maturo at 12:10.

Minutes

Minutes – the minutes were read by Glorianne Campbell and approved with a motion by Debbie Notaro and seconded by Leslie Harsch.

Treasurerʼs Report – Ellie Byrnes reported the current balances in the GGC accounts. Ellie reminded the members that dues are due by May 1 and can be paid by check or on line.

Vice Presidents’ Report-Arlene Grandt reported that the March meeting will be Yoga for Gardeners, wear comfortable clothes.

May Luncheon – Debbie Notaro reported that the luncheon will take place on May 6 at Eagle Brook Country Club, with tickets priced at $30.

Guest Introductions

Committees

Always on Tuesday-Kathy Wengronowitz reported that we already have two gardens signed up. She passed the sign up sheet.

Hospitality -Jane Martin introduced the chair for today, Lorraine Ochsner, who in turn introduced her committee. Kathleen Herrington announced that we had seven items for the Raffle.

Legislation -Mary Stavenhagen read our newly drafted Mission and Constitution. They were accepted with a motion by Deb Hall Reppen and seconded by Linda Stavrou.

Service Projects

  • Scholarship – the information is up on our website.

Ways & Means -the Plant Sale on June 6-8 was mentioned. Mary Stavenhagen and Marilyn Schave are co-chairs for this event.

Other Business

  • Debbie Notaro and Julie Brown reported for the Nominating Committee. We need to fill the offices of President, Vice Presidents and Secretary.! !
  • The matter of the Garden Club supporting Gardenology with up to $2,000 for the Speakers’ Tent was presented to the members by Julie Maturo and Debbie Notaro.
  • The Library Book Honoree, Linda Radtke, was presented with the book, Private Edens Beautiful Country Gardens, by Jack Staub.
  • Garden Walk 2015 Chairs are still needed. See Julie Maturo about this. 
  • The Flower Show at Navy Pier from March 15-23, where we will be planting a window box for display, was mentioned.
