The meeting was called to order by President Julie Maturo at 12:40pm at Fiora’s Restaurant.

Minutes

Minutes – the minutes were read by Glorianne Campbell and approved with a motion by Julie Brown seconded by Sue Woltman.

Treasurerʼs Report – Ellie Byrnes reported the current balances in the GGC accounts.

Guest Introductions – Julie Maturo introduced our several guests who included owners of gardens on the Garden Walk and our scholarship winner, Ethan Peterson, and his mother Nancy.

Committees

Garden Walk 2013-Deb Notaro reported on the walk. Tickets are available today, see Ellie Byrnes and Arlene Grandt. Linda Brodine has made up cards to promote the 10/10 sale and to date ten sets have been sold. Volunteers are still needed four or more for the Park, as well as someone to be in charge of the Bake Sale at the Park. Please call Kathleen Harrington if you can help. Sheila Persinger had the sign up sheet for the Bake Sale at the meeting.

Always on Tuesday – the summer schedule sheets are available today.

Arbor Day – Julie Maturo announced that 16/17 trees will be planted in downtown Geneva business district and another 20 in Island Park with our donations.

Historians – Ginny Dushney and Annette Barnes passed out the Geneva Garden Club history quiz to all in attendance. The answers were given and winners announced after the meeting was adjourned.

Library – Julie Maturo asked members to sign up for library plant/flower decorations during the next several months.

Japanese Garden – Darlene Larson reported that the garden is now open for the season. Darlene also shared about a long time member Mary Rose Emma who had recently passed away. Linda Radtke also shared her memory of Mary Rose’s graciousness as she was the first to welcome Linda as a new member to the club and the community.

Recognition

Hospitality – many thanks were extended to Julie Brown and her committee for planning of the day’s luncheon and beautiful decorations.

Scholarship – Karen Bielski introduced our scholarship winner, Ethan Peterson, and extended our congratulations.

Book Presentation – Julie Maturo showed us the beautiful book that is being presented to the Geneva Library with a personal copy going to our honored recipient, Pat O’Keeffe. Pat, a members since 2000, has served in many capacities throughout the years – committee chair of Assemblage, Arbor Day (4), Publicity, Membership, Vice President (Programs 3), and Bow Making and signs.

Current Committee Chairs – Julie Maturo thanked all the committee chair who have served this year – Debbie Notaro, Sheila Persinger, Linda Stavrou, Linda Radtke, Linda Brodine, Chris Shaw, Susan Vander Veen, Julie Brown, Kristie Dienst, Judy Anderson, Darlene Larson, Jane Van Nortwick, Ellie Byrnes, Karen Bielski, Ginny Dushney, Annette Barnes, Jane Martin, Sue Hamill, Mary Ann Rosenfelder, Ellen Bassett, Sue Woltman, Cathy Rex, Arlene Grandt, Jan Marzetta, and Mary Stavenhagen.

Installation of Officers – Julie Maturo installed the officers for the next year, Arlene Grandt and Mary Stavenhagen, Vice Presidents, Glorianne Campbell, Secretary, and Ellie Byrnes, Treasurer. (Julie Maturo was thanked by all present for her leadership role as President.)

Announcements – Julie Maturo reminded everyone of the Living Well Bridge Walk and Gardenology both taking place on Saturday, May 18. She also mentioned the We Grow Dreams Greenhouse which had donated some planters for today’s raffle and who are holding plant sales at Scentimental Gardens on the Saturdays through May and June.
