GENEVA GARDEN CLUB GENERAL MEETING MINUTES

March 1, 2016

The meeting was called to order by President Debbie Notaro at 12:06 PM.

Secretary’s Report:   Julie Brown confirmed the meeting minutes from February and a motion was made to accept the minutes as written.  A motion was made by Glorianne Campbell and seconded by Julie Maturo.

Treasurer’s Report:  Julie M. reviewed the expenditures/report for all Geneva Garden Club Accounts.

Vice President’s Report:  On their behalf, Debbie reported next month’s meeting will be off site at Shady Hill Gardens in Elburn for our planting Workshop.  Even if not planting your pots she encouraged to come for the meeting portion.

Committee Reports: 

Membership:  Kristie D. reported no guests today and dues are due by April 1st.

Scholarship:  No report

Ways and Means:  No report

Communications:  Tammy C. will now be sending out the E-mail invitation to sign up on SignUp Genius instead of coming from Linda B.  Website is updated with current information.

Legislation:  No report

Publicity:  No report

Hospitality:  Jane Martin welcomed everyone and introduced Tammy C. our Hostess chair.   She in turn introduced her committee and thanked everyone for helping with another delicious and festive lunch.

Always on Tuesday:  No report

Historian:  No report

Assemblage:  No report

Community Service Projects:  No report

Awards chair:   No report

Special Committees:

Nomination Committee:  Julie M. and her committee are working on nominations for next year’s board positions.  Job roles and descriptions were reviewed, open positions are President ( 2 years), V.P.’s (2 years), Secretary ( 1year).  Please let Julie know if you are interested in one of these positions.

May Luncheon:  Diane and Noel reminded and encouraged everyone to sign up and pay for the luncheon which is on May 3rd at Heritage Prairie Farms in Elburn.  Cost is $35.00 and will be served family style and a delicious dessert table will be included.  There will be a wonderful raffle item as well. ****PAYMENT IS DUE BY APRIL 19TH– NO EXCEPTIONS.

Fancy Plants/Not so Plain Jane Plant Sale:  Debbie shared sales are going well, would love to open to public next year and encouraged anyone still interested in ordering plants to do so today as tomorrow is the deadline.

Big Sisters:  Mary S. explained how this will work, current members mentoring and being a “buddy” to help get acclimated with the club.  We now have a “New Member Quick Guide” each new member will receive.

Other Business:   Debbie shared that she attended The Gardener’s Pathway Seminar on February 27th at Kishwaukee College along with Julie Brown and Ellen Bassett.  A quick overview was given by each member; she encouraged anyone interested in taking classes or seminars to do so.

Gardenology:  Debbie explained how this one day event in May was started and how this coincides with our clubs mission statement of giving back to the community and providing education. There are speakers, demo tents, vendors, and children’s activities throughout the day, 10AM to 4PM, off 3rd Street in downtown Geneva.  Debbie asked for volunteers if anyone is interested and available to do a shift to let her know and also can sign up on the SignUp Genius.

She also reminded members to attend the Chicago Flower and Garden Show March 12-20 at Navy Pier and vote for the window box  designed by Mary S. and herself.

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 1:06PM by Karen Bielski and seconded by Linda Brodine.
