February 2016 Meeting Minutes

GENEVA GARDEN CLUB GENERAL MEETING MINUTES

February 2, 2016

The meeting was called to order at 12:02 pm by President Debbie Notaro.

Secretary’s Report:  The meeting minutes from January were confirmed as presented by Secretary Julie Brown.

Treasurers Report:  Julie Maturo gave an explanation of expenditures already allotted so far this year and shared the current balances for all GGC accounts.

Vice President’s Report:  Sheila Persinger reminded us that our speaker for March will be Kay MacNeil with her presentation on Milkweed for Monarchs.

Committee Reports:

Membership:  In Kristie’s absence, Sheila introduced our 3 guests.  We welcomed our newest member Dottie Rovner, who was presented with her welcome packet and flowers.

Scholarship:  No report

Ways and Means:  no report

Communications:  Tammy encouraged us to check out our Website as she updates information.

Legislation:  Glorianne Campbell reported that the Illinois Attorney General and Annual Reports have been filed and received for 2015-2016.  Debbie gave a brief overview of the filing process.

Publicity:  Teresa K. shared that the Scholarship information will be updated on Facebook soon.

Hospitality:  Jane Martin introduced Lynn Bishop who in turn thanked and introduced her hostess committee.  Jane also welcomed former member Pat O’Keeffe who was visiting.

Always on Tuesday:  Kathy W. explained what AOT was and that the field trip to John Richter’s Warrenville home will be July 5th.  John’s gardens feature many hostas, daylilies, and bluebells.  He will dig up plants for you to purchase for $15.00 and donate 10% back to the club.

Historian:  No report

Assemblage:  No report

Community Service Projects:  Chris Shaw reported things are still quiet for the winter.

Awards Chair:  Debbie thanked Deb Hall-Reppen for volunteering to chair this new position.

Special Committees:  Julie M. explained the job positions of the President, V.P.’s and Secretary as she and her Nominating Committee will be looking for replacements for these positions for next year.  Cheryl G. agreed to join her committee.

May Luncheon:  Noel S. shared that the cost will once again be $35.00, and we will be able to start signing up at the March meeting.

Garden Walk 2017:  For once Mary Stavenhagen was speechless!  She had no report.

Fancy Plants and Not so Plain Jane plant sale:  Debbie showed a power point slide presentation on what plants will be available and cost, etc.  Will be able to pre-order starting today and can pay via check, PayPal or cash.

Big Sisters:  Deb Hall-Reppen explained something new we are going to start doing with our new members.  She will assign a “big sister” to our new members to help them get acquainted with the club, mentor and introduce them to other members.

Other Business:  Margaret Eagan spoke and asked for volunteers to help at the Japanese Gardens in Fabyan Forest Preserve being a docent/guide for the visitors walking through the garden.

Application forms for Gardener’s Pathway classes February 27th were passed out and Debbie encouraged anyone interested in going to see her.

Gardenology:  Debbie asked again for volunteers to help with this event in May.  She is still in need of people to do demo’s, cover the speaker’s tent, work in the children’s tent, etc.  Please let her know if interested.

There are also classes available through Garden Clubs of Illinois,  and April 9th McHenry Co. will present Garden Feast 2016.  Check website for further information.

For today’s raffle we will have 4 plants donated by our speaker Susan VanderVeen, a cyclamen plant/candy, and Geneva gift cards.

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 1:27 pm by Deb Hall-Reppen and seconded by Julie Maturo.
